happy h**ker...

Luke_front01

Yep, I've turned into a h**ker. Crochet h**ker that is. It started with the ripple and then this scarf and then progressed to softies. There are heaps of awesome patterns out there. Next up I want to teach myself to read Japanese crochet patterns. The dinosaur I made for a friend's birthday, pattern from Owlishly, did it matter that he was a 40 odd year old man? No, I didn't think so either.

Lovely Fran tagged me, just for you Miss F six random things about me:

1. I like to poke my tongue at small people just to see their reactions. They're mixed and generally hilarious for those of you that are interested, anything from dobbing you in to mum or dad to poking their own tongue back at you.

2. I'm left handed though I play any "bat" sports right handed.

3. I make a lot of noise at the cinema, not intentionally. Apparently I agree, clap my hands, gasp and laugh very loudly.

4. I'm freckly.

5. I never finished high school, left at year 11 and went to technical college and did a certificate in office studies. I've been working full time since I was 17.

6. Aaah, I have a thing for country music. In particular Lyle Lovett and recently....Reba McIntyre.

Tag, ok for once I'm gonna, here goes. You guys are it: Auntie Cookie, How About Orange, Molly Chicken, Buzzville, Red Felt Flower and Sodeste.

I couldn't leave you without a picture of at least ONE of my furkids. Here's the Spud for those of you that have missed him. He's doing very well, aside from some mysterious fur loss on his belly and legs and tolerating his older brother's boisterous love.

Belated festive wishes.

This is how Ted and Spud currently show their love, yes love, for one another. Please note Spud is a willing participant in puppy harassment, or puppy love depending who you are. Spud is on his leash as he is an indoor cat. Usually I hold  the leash so Spud has a fighting chance against Ted. I love the way that Spud uses all four paws to play and also that he spends most of the fight laying on his side and sucking in Ted. Much fun.

In case the embedded video's not working, try this link.

Will try and find the video camera charge cable to show you this in real time and with sound. Very amusing.

a bit of this and that

Howdy there. I know, it's been a while. There's been a little baking, a little crafting, a lot of unpacking and organising.

I actually don't have a lot to tell you at the moment without boring you with my domesticity. I'm loving it, but writing it here for you guys to read is another thing! It's the blog's birthday on 27th July, three years. I'm planning on doing something so come on back on the 27th. I'm impressed I've kept it going for that long, doesn't feel like three years.

I'll leave you with some pics, I seem to only be able to photograph at night at the moment, no flash, so they're still grainy, and a link to Jen's blog. Go on over and welcome her.

Homemade apple pie, sorry the pastry is out of a packet.

A present for The Son's birthday, a Wee Wonderful's kitty. Great pattern, fun and easy to follow.

Spud's tower of power has returned to the living room. He loves lording it over us up there.

*Sigh* a partly organised crafty space. Yes I sewed amongst this chaos. Maybe this week it'll be finished. For the voyeurs an annotated pic over here.

I can't promise I'll post again before the 27th, so until then, happy crafting!

channelling the inner goddess

Slowly getting back my domestic goddess groove. Still surrounded by unpacked cartons, waiting for the painter to come before we finish unpacking. Today there was oiling the outdoor setting, cooking and baking. Had a little time to play with the D80 today, slowly feeling my way around, you'll all be my guinea pigs so be patient with my over exposed, under exposed, out of focus shots!

Today's the first day that I've started yearning for my crafty space. I'm itching to sew and play in my new craft room. I love that I can stick stuff on walls and pretty much do what I want, no landlords to worry about.

So. Today. Mother's Day - out to breakfast with The Son and my parents, they're moving to Noosa next month which I have mixed feelings about. Then home for a mid morning nap and trashy magazine read. An afternoon filled with oiling furniture, cooking beef bourginon and baking banana cake using my new stand mixer, she's a beauty.

Happy crafting!

Happy new year!

Well hi! Long time no visit. Finally come up for air and thought to myself "hmmm maybe you should blog". So here I am.

What's been happening in my land? Lots and nothing. Make sense? I met someone...Christmas came and went. New Year's was amazing and 2007 is shaping up to be a humdinger of a year. A friend has some very exciting news that I can't share yet and well, at the moment I'm feeling "giddy", to quote Al M.

Oh, you read the "met someone" comment. Well not a lot of detail to share here yet, but let's just say she's amazing and the word smitten is being bandied around.

New Year's day started off with some excellent french toast I made. My version. Buy a brioche loaf. Slice it up, whisk up a couple of eggs add a dash of milk, combine some caster sugar and cinnamon or your spices of choice (cloves would be yummy) and spinkle this on a plate. Heat up a fry pan or a sandwich press (I use a sandwich press). Dip the bread in the eggy mixture, then place bread on the sugar plate, do both sides. Then put the bread in the sandwich press and let it cook. The sugar caramelises a little and it's all toasty and warm. You plate it with some maple syrup and maple soaked strawberries...what you don't see here is the wicked addition of a dollop of fresh cream. DIVINE.

Ny_2007_breakfast

Craft wise....well a little sluggish with the craft at the moment. Working on socks and an overdue birthday gift. Al and I are starting to talk and think about BT4 which is exciting.

The Kim Family Auction is up and running, go on over and bid.

Finally, Spud says whatever you do in 2007, make sure it includes lots of napping.

Ny_spud

this is supposed to be fun...

Well hello there, it's been a week!

What a week. I made a crafty rod for my back. No details yet as it's a gift, a late gift for a dear friend's 40th. Sorry Gillian, it won't be ready tomorrow....but I HOPE it'll be worth the wait.

Here's a sneaky peak.

Yoyo_in_progress

Also when I was making the footrest Al M was all "bet the cat sits on it" and I was all "nooo way"...well I'm a soft touch. As both Al and Spud know. HOWEVER when I'm not at home the footrest is on a sofa upsidedown. So we've reached a compromise, come on, who could kick him off? Not me.

Poufy_spud

I've also been following the Kim family's story. I personally don't feel I can comment, other than I am so sorry for the family's loss. If you like to make a donation you can do so at the family's site. Lisa and her family are also organising a fundraiser. Keep your eyes peeled for details.

almost, WIP'd out.

What a crafty week. I've had deadlines, some self created, others not and I still have one more project to bust out for Sunday.

These two kitties were a commission for a friend.

Hot_dog_kitty

Mushie_kitty

Meet Mushie and HotDog. Original I know. They stand about 10cm tall, sorry forgot to add something for scale, well there is the cat. As I was photographing them last night my "assistant" didn't quite get that I didn't want them laying flat. He'd knock them over and then just sit there looking at me all Vinnie Barbarino "whatcha gonna do about it"...Can't get mad at him though, look at that little face.

Massacre

Homework

It's been eons since I had actual homework. You know something I HAD to do. Well I don't HAVE to but I've paid for this course and the 2nd and final lesson is tomorrow and I want to get my money's worth! There's also the dreaded unfinished WIP syndrome and I have enough of those already, so this foot REST is going to be finished! I've also ordered a new sofa, insert small dance here, that will be coming late December.

Wedges_2

So this week inbetween catching up with friends and dating I've been sewing, sewing, sewing. Surprisingly once all the pieces were cut, the sewing doesn't take long at all. I can piece together a wedge in about 30-40mins now. 6 down 2 to go. It's a little matchy matchy for my liking, but I still love it. I'm already thinking of making another.

Wedges_1

WOOT! WA's getting daylight saving!!! About bloody time.

Today's soundtrack at work...Betty Blue. Just beautiful.

Well, wherever you are, have a fabulous Friday. Spud says paws up, relax and allow yourself a belly scratch.

Helllowwwww

take this Halloween costume and shove it.

Post birthday "blues" here this week. Where did everyone go. More presents? I bought myself some birthday shoes. Cute!

Birthday_shoes_xtreme_closeup

Quiet week. Little crafting, chugging away at the socks. I thought I was beat by the short row heels, but then I had a talk to myself and sat down in a quiet place, READ Jolene's instructions through to the end and had a moment of clarity. Maybe my subconscious wanted me to rip out the heels several times on each foot?? Really. Talk about banging my head against the short rows. Finally, I got it. They're not as pretty as others I've seen, but there are NO holes. Relief.

Short_row_frickin_heels

Other than that, quiet weekend ahead. Hanging out with Al M tonight, watching Project Runway. Knitting, maybe some sewing, probably a movie and some exercise might be good as well. I'm also overdue for Moki's fabric stamp swap...so that'll be on the cards. I've received a couple already and they're excellent. The Kismet's is excellent and look at her tutorial! Cool.

Halloween seems to be on a lot of blogger's minds. It's never really been a big Australian holiday, but it seems to be gathering momentum over the years. I'm noticing more and more merchandise in stores. I guess if you have little peeps you might be into it. So as you know I just have a furry kid and he seemed keen to dress as a ghost. Well, I thought that's what he was saying....

squareish squarey and jasper

Wow, it's been a week between posts! No great reason, just nothing to share or say, I know, I know, unusual. The bosses have been in Europe for the past 4 weeks and I'm "boss" whilst they are away, what does that mean? Not a huge amount, well a LOT more client contact and working with and coordinating designers. I'm rusty and a little brain tired. I've felt inadequate at times, but managed to pull through without too much damage. Well, we'll see, they're back later this week.

Miss Kate's birthday was yesterday and a bunch of us went out for tapas on Saturday night. It was a surprise for Kate that we were all there. There was Perth blog and editorial celebrity everywhere I tell ya. ;)

Yummy food, no pictures sorry, and excellent music, good enough for a few of us to notice. Kate noticed Johnny Cash, Gayle and I noticed Nick Cave. There was duck, oysters, zucchini in lemon and fresh broad beans, that's what I can remember. There was also rabbit torrine, but I skipped it this time. Being the sweet tooth I managed to squeeze in rocky road semi-freddo and it was delish. Would definitely go back again with a smaller group so I could concentrate on the food more. A great night, lots of laughs.

Of course, Kate was subjected to handmade gifts :) It's great having newish friends you can foist handmade onto and they like it. Kate's always appreciative and that's also what makes making her stuff even more fun for me, it's all about ME I tell you!

Jasper_hank

Seeing how Lucy got her own colourway from my favourite sock yarn people, Blue moon Fiberarts (site appears to be down, so I've linked you to the Fold), and they hadn't been forthcoming yet with a Jasper colourway, I figured a Jasper colourway by Craftapalooza would have to do the trick. It'll be interesting to see how this knits up. It's knitpicks dye your own sock yarn, but not the superwash sock that they bought out JUST after I'd purchased mine, dammit. Dyed using food dyes, dry powder dyes. Jasper is predominately brown with white spots and a red collar, hence the red. Alison M was like "red?" and I'm like "no she's not bloody, she has a red collar", had to be there I guess.

Jasper_cake

I also knitted Kate a Squarey from Jess Hutches knitted softie book. He's very sweet, a little wonky in parts and more squarish than squarey, but lovable. Knit using lambs pride worsted for the main body and arms, a bit of kureyon and some anonymous grey marle wool yarn for the stripes.

Squarish

Did the Father's Day breakfast Sunday and then to recover from a family experience a couple of hours in a darkened cinema was required. I took myself off to see The Book of Revelation. I had read the book 4 years ago, Em had suggested it for a bookclub read, her first bookclub pick and also the first time she'd met bookclub LOL. I think the first sentence has the word pe*#s in it, half the group couldn't read the book, but I found the concept fascinating. For those of you who don't know, it's definitely not a book about religion and it is directed by Ana Kokkinos (she also wrote the screen play), the same director that did Head On, that'll give you some insight.

The movie was interesting, it had me fidgeting in my seat part the way through, couldn't keep my attention. It does have an excellent Australian cast and Tom Long must have done some serious training to get the physique he has in the film, no budget for body doubles I would imagine. It was also great to see it filmed in Melbourne city. Lot's of great memories, I lived in Melbourne for 3.5 years over 6 years ago and I still toy with thoughts of going back, it's a gorgeous city to live in.

No new music for you today, a little birdie did tell me that he thinks The New Pornographers are coming to Australia later this year, I'm hoping Neko comes too! Newish to me blog, Modamuse, showcasing Australian and New Zealand artisans and crafters. Also exciting news Lisa's store will be opening on 11 September.

Phew, got to the end, happy crafting and if you're a kitty happy snoozing.
